Commitments for Married Couples OR for Same Sex Couples

Gay couple

In Australia Ceremonies of Commitment are used for a number of different reasons.

  • Same sex couples make a commitment to their partners. (Gay marriage is not legal in Australia.)
But some same sex couple may marry overseas and later hold a Commitment Ceremony in Australia to include their families and their friends .
  • Heterosexual couples who marry quietly may have a larger ‘commitment ceremony’ later to include more family and friends.
  • Couples who have had a separation may want to demonstrate their renewed love in a Commitment Ceremony.

Celebrating Love and Commitment

Whatever your personal reasons are for holding a Commitment Ceremony with Meg Boswell
Your ceremony can be :
  • elaborate or simple
  • flamboyant or quiet
  • formal or relaxed.
Commitment Ceremonies can be designed to fit the individual needs of each couple.
Whatever your reason you will want the occasion to be memorable and meaningful.

By making a Commitment you are first of all speaking:
  • to each other . . . . and then
  • to all the family and friends you invite to share the ceremony with you.
Meg has many ideas to make every ceremony unique and meaningful to each couple.
Here are some suggestions to help you prepare:
  1. Talk together about what you would like to express to each other and to your family and friends through your Ceremony of Commitment. (This discussion will increase the personal value of  your ceremony.)
  2. Consider what you want to promise your partner. (The celebrant will suggest some promises for you to use or assist you to write some.)
  3. Consider whether you want the ceremony to be formal or informal.
  4. Consider whether you want others to take part in the ceremony with you.

Meg would be delighted to talk with you personally about the possibilities of celebrating your love with a Ceremony of Commitment.  Contact Meg for a chat on the phone or make an appointment to call and see her with no-obligation.

Where can we hold our Commitment Ceremony?

From the mountains to the sea........ you can hold your ceremony anywhere that is special to you.
On a mountain, on a beach or headland overlooking the ocean, in a park, in a public or private garden, in your home or someone else’s, in a community hall or an up market resort, on a boat, on the banks of a beautiful creek, in fact anywhere you can obtain permission to be.

If you are planning to hold your ceremony on public land, contact your local council in advance, or the National Parks & Wildlife Service or whatever body is responsible, to check if you need special permission and/or insurance cover.
