- Consider what you want to promise your partner. (The celebrant will suggest some promises for you to use or assist you to write some.)
- Consider whether you want the ceremony to be formal or informal.
- Consider whether you want others to take part in the ceremony with you.

On a mountain, on a beach or headland overlooking the ocean, in a park, in a public or private garden, in your home or someone else’s, in a community hall or an up market resort, on a boat, on the banks of a beautiful creek, in fact anywhere you can obtain permission to be.
If you are planning to hold your ceremony on public land, contact your local council in advance, or the National Parks & Wildlife Service or whatever body is responsible, to check if you need special permission and/or insurance cover.
