How To Plan Your Wedding 2

Planning Your Wedding Ceremony Part 2

Our First Planning Meeting (Allow up to one & a half hours)

At our first meeting we will discuss what you would like to have in your marriage ceremony. If you do not live in the local area, we can do the first part of the planning by email and/or post.

I will listen carefully to what you tell me and also offer you some ideas to consider, including a choice of wording for each part of your ceremony. You may wish to have a very relaxed ceremony or you may want a particularly formal or traditional ceremony. All of these things are possible. I can offer you many options to reflect your personalities and values in life.

For your marriage vows (promises) You may choose from the promises I provide, or “cut & paste” or you may prefer to write your own. Your marriage vows do not have to be the same as each others, but they must be what you yourself wish to promise.
Legal Documents
If any of the following documents are not immediately available, it’s OK to make a separate appointment to bring them to me, but it must be well before your wedding.
  • A Birth Certificate for each person
  • A Passport if you have one
  • Court Papers showing "Decree Absolute" or Divorce Certificate showing
  • "Divorce Order" if previously married & divorced
  • Death Certificate of former spouse if widowed
  • Your Driver's Licence or NSW Photo Card may also be required (called "Proof of Age" in ACT, SA,VIC, & WA; "Card18+" in QLD; "Personal Information" in TAS; "Evidence of Age" in NT).
If you are missing any of the above documents, I can give you written information on how to obtain new documents.

The Official "Notice of Intended Marriage"
  • I will ask you to complete & sign a “Notice of Intended Marriage”. (Download a “Notice” here.)
  • I will ask you to return for a meeting a few days before your wedding.
  • It may also be necessary to have another meeting in between if we have particular matters to finalise.
Our Final Meeting and Rehearsal (Allow up to one & a half hours)
At this meeting
  • I will check ceremony details carefully with you. If you wish to amend your ceremony in any way we can do this together at this meeting. It is your wedding and it is vitally important that the ceremony we create truly reflects your wishes.
  • You will sign Declarations stating there are no legal impediments to your marriage with each other. After your wedding, I will file these Declarations, along with your Notice of Intended Marriage and one Marriage Certificate, with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages.
  • At the conclusion of our meeting, I will conduct a rehearsal of the key parts of your ceremony. This helps you to feel more confident on your wedding day. Please bring any members of your wedding party who are available, to this rehearsal.
On site rehearsals are also available, and are particularly valuable if you are holding your ceremony at a resort or similar upmarket venue.
