Today I make my promises to you And we will make our promises to us. I will promise ‘love’ I will promise ‘commitment’ and ‘forever’, Solemn promises, but made with bursting joy.
When I promise ‘love’ I mean ‘I give myself to you in unreserved commitment.’ When I promise ‘for ever’ I mean ‘through all the days and weeks and months and years that we may live.’ ‘Forever’ means ‘always’ And even after that if I can have my way. What I start with you I will finish with you.
What I promise to you is like a circling chain of beads. There is no end. I count around the circle and the count can never end. My love and my commitment never end. My promise can’t be broken. The promise is me and I the promise.
When I commit to ‘you alone’ I do so with my body and my mind and spirit. There is no part of me that I will not surrender To become a part of us. © Jim Boswell 2 March 2003 |
